CNC Routing Materials
Wood
-
Most all types of wood are suitable for CNC Routing, including oiled woods, and many solid and sheet woods cut very nicely and intricately. CNC routing is appropriate for large format and thicker wood.
Plywood sheets are available in a variety of wood finishes and varying cores, often utilizing wood veneer on the surface for finer finishes. Birch plywood is the most common, and can be stained before or after cutting and etching.
MDF is available for CNC routing in thicknesses up to 2”, but can be glued up to thicker depths.

Also known as Plexiglass, Lucite, or Perspex, acrylic is a popular and versatile thermoplastic for many applications. It is a common substitute for glass as it is crystal clear, lighter, more shatter resistant, and easier to work with. Available in a number of colors, patterns and finishes, it is suitable for many creative projects and cuts very well on the CNC router.
Available thicknesses: 1/16”, 1/8”, 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”. Please follow the link to view additional options.
Beyond acrylic and wood, a wide variety of other materials are suitable for CNC routing. If you are unsure, please inquire and provide us specific information on the material or product.
Vinyl, polycarbonate, PVC, and any materials containing chlorine are toxic to laser cut but cut very well on the CNC router, and can be excellent options for many applications.
